Man climbs cellphone tower in Birbhum, sends cops in a tizzy

Kolkata: Police were sent into a tizzy when a middle-aged man climbed up a mobile phone tower at Mohammadbazar in Birbhum on Wednesday morning.
Police said that local people found the man at the top of the 100 metre tall tower and asked him to come down.
Having failed to convince him to come down, they informed the police. Policemen from the local police station went to the spot and initially tried to bring him down.
But the person was not at all ready to listen to the police and continued making different gestures at people. Police then sought help of the state Fire and Emergency Services department. Fire fighters reached the spot and initiated work to rescue the man.
The man had threatened to jump when he found firefighters trying to climb up the tower. The firefighters took around five hours to bring the person down.
Hundreds of people had gathered in the area, which made the task more difficult for the firefighters. The area was finally cordoned off and the firefighters somehow managed to convince him to come down from the tower. The police have also taken steps to provide necessary treatment to the man.
This is the first time when such an incident has taken place in the area and the police have asked the concerned authorities to take necessary steps so that people from outside cannot enter the area where the tower is situated, without permission.
