Man chops off wife's head in South 24-Pgns, confesses crime

Kolkata: A woman was reportedly killed and beheaded by her husband at Patharpratima in South 24-Parganas on Monday morning.

Later, the accused person, identified as Abhijit Das, carried the head of his wife Amba Das and surrendered himself at the Patharpratima police station.

According to sources, on Monday morning, around 6 am, Abhijit entered the police station and requested the officers that he wanted to meet the Inspector-in-Charge

(IC).

When the duty officer asked why he was looking for IC, Abhijit calmly said that he had killed his wife Amba and wished to surrender. Primarily, the duty officer thought that Abhijit had some mental illness but when he took out the head of his wife from a handbag, the officer was stunned. Immediately, he asked Abhijit to sit down and informed the IC.

Abhijit said he chopped off Amba's head after tying her legs and hands. Hearing this, police officers went to his home at Lakshmi Janardanpur and recovered the beheaded body of Amba. Sources informed that the couple has a three-year-old girl. Neighbours claimed that there were no problem between Abhijit and Amba. They use to live in Delhi as Abhijit worked there. They recently come to Lakshmi Janardanpur for a marriage of a family member.

According to sources, apparently there was no problem between Abhijit and Amba, but there were some issues over demand of money from Abhijit's in-laws. Police officers are trying to find out if that issue had something to do with the murder. Till Monday night, Abhijit did not make it clear why he killed Amba. A murder case has been lodged. The police are trying to find the motive of murder.
