KOLKATA: A youth was allegedly beaten to death by his in-laws at Dholahat in South 24-Parganas on Tuesday.
According to a source, Saddam Mollah (25), a resident of Mandirbazar, married Mumtaz Bibi of Dholahat approximately four years ago.
After a year, Bibi gave birth to a girl child. But due to some problem in the family, they were separated and later they got divorced.
However, Mollah was not able to forget his daughter, who is at present three-year-old.
It is alleged that on Sunday night he went to Dholahat to meet his daughter.
However, before he could reach his in-laws house, Mollah was attacked near Bahirchak. He was allegedly beaten up by his in-laws and their neighbours. Local residents informed police seeing Mollah getting beaten up badly. The police rescued him and admitted him to Kulpi Rural Hospital.
However, as his condition deteriorated, Mollah was shifted to Diamond District Hospital on Monday and further shifted to Chittaranjan National Medical College and Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday.
Mollah's family members lodged a complaint against his
in-laws at the Dholahat police station.
Based on the complaint, the police have initiated a murder case and arrested two persons in this regard who are Mollah's in-laws.
The police are also keeping strict vigil on his in-laws house.
It is assumed that Mollah died due to internal bleeding. The police are waiting for the autopsy report to ascertain the exact cause of death.
