Man attacked with dagger, admitted to hospital, serious

Kolkata: A chicken seller believed to be a Trinamool Congress supporter suffered serious injuries after being attacked by some miscreants.

The victim has been identified as Suleman Mondal.

He has been undergoing treatment at Midnapore Medical College and Hospital. The incident took place at Jamira village in Keshpur in West Midnapore.

The victim was returning home on late Saturday evening after his day's business when some miscreants stopped his way.

One of the miscreants took out a dagger and attacked the victim. After hearing him scream, some of the local residents rushed to the spot.

The accused managed to flee from the spot immediately after the incident.

The victim fell on the ground after being attacked several times. The local people rushed the victim to a nearby hospital. The nature of his injuries is stated to be serious in nature.

The district Trinamool Congress claimed the victim to be their party worker.

They alleged that the BJP backed goons were behind the attack.

It was also alleged that the miscreants were trying to snatch Rs 25,000 from the victim. The local BJP leaders, however, denied the charge and termed it as a result of the intra-party conflict within Trinamool Congress.

Police have started a detailed probe into the incident.

Raids are being conducted to nab the culprits. Police are investigating if

there was any political angle in the incident.
