Man arrested for siphoning off money from ATM accounts

Kolkata: Barrackpore police have arrested a person from Uttar Pradesh on the charges of duping people by hacking their ATM accounts.
According to the police, the accused has been identified as Neeraj Pandey. Investigators said that Neeraj was originally from Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh. According to the police, the accused had a sound knowledge regarding the software and was also a cyber expert. He resorted to ATM fraud to earn quick money.
A senior police officer of the Barrackpore Commissionarate said that the accused had withdrawn few lakh of Rupees from some customers from Belghoria, Ariadaha and Titagarh area. After staring an investigation police prepared the list of some suspected person who might have been involved in the incident. He was arrested from Ganga Ghat area of Uttar Pradesh.
Police said that on being asked how he had swapped the cards, he confessed that he had searched how to hack ATM. Police said that a few days ago, they had received some complaints saying that many people from various parts under Barrackpore Commissionarate had been cheated of lakhs of rupees.
Police also came to know that in some cases the accused used to offer help to the victims in withdrawing cash. The accused used to take the ATM cards in pretext of helping them on how to operate the ATM machine. The accused used to swap the ATM cards with another ATM Card, said a senior police officer.
The accused used to develop software to hack ATM. Police, however, did not divulge the total amount of money that was duped by the accused or the ATMs that were used by the hacker.
