Man arrested for raping on pretext of marriage

Bidhannagar Police arrested a person on charges of rape on Monday night. Police booked the accused from his residence on the basis of the complaint lodged by the victim. Police learnt that the accused allegedly raped the victim several times promising to marry her.

"Ashis Kumar Agarwal, the accused person allegedly raped the victim promising to marry her. But later, he did not to fulfill his promises and ran away. We arrested Agarwal after the girl lodged a complaint against him," said a woman police officer.

Investigation revealed that the girl, a bar-dancer by profession, met the accused at a night club. They were engaged in a relationship and it was going all well till the time the girl suspected the man of cheating on her.

"The girl was probably pregnant when she started doubting the man. She came to the police station to lodge a complaint when the man refused her to marry," the woman officer further said. The accused was arrested from his Behala resident and produced before the court.

Meanwhile, in another incident at Bankura, police arrested a person on charges of molestation on Monday night. The accused allegedly touched the private parts of a minor girl. The neighbours caught the accused, handed him over to the Bidhannagar City Police.

Police learnt that the victim, a Class VII student was playing in her locality. The accused youth called up the girl to his house. He tried to lure her by giving some food. Later, the girl was allegedly molested by the accused while she was eating food, police suspected.
