Man arrested for allegedly harassing Sachin's daughter
Kolkata: A 32-year-old was arrested from Mahishadal in East Midnapore on charges of harassing the daughter of Sachin Tendulkar over phone.
Police said the accused Debkumar Maity was arrested on late Saturday night from his residence at Andulia near Mahishadal in East Midnapore.
A complaint was lodged with Bandra Police Station in Mumbai alleging that someone had been disturbing Sachin's daughter over phone. The caller had been giving marriage proposal to her. He even managed to arrange Sachin's office number and gave the marriage proposal. At least 20 to 25 calls were made to harass Sachin's daughter.
The police initiated a probe after receiving the complaint and tracking of phone revealed that the caller was from Mahishadal in East Midnapore.
Concerned officers of Mumbai Police contacted Mahishadal police station and it was on Saturday when a team of Mumbai Police reached East Midnapore. They conducted a raid in his house on Saturday and arrested him in this connection. Sources said that during interrogation, the man confessed the guilt. Police found tattoo on his right hand with name of Sachin's daughter. The police are trying to ascertain whether the man is suffering from any mental disorder. The man was produced before the Haldia Court on Sunday and he was taken to Mumbai in transit remand.
Preliminary investigation further revealed that Deb is known for his quiet and calm nature in the locality. His neighbours couldn't believe that he could do something like this. He is also known as a good painter in the area and he had also spent five years in Mumbai where he used to work at a thermocol manufacturing unit.
He returned to Mahishadal a few years ago where he used to stay with his mother and younger brother.
