Mamata to inaugurate construction of 12,000 km of rural roads

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will inaugurate the construction of 12,000 km of rural roads, connecting villages with state or national highways, at a function today.
The construction will be carried out throughout the state.
The State Panchayats and Rural Development Department will undertake the construction. Tenders have already been floated for many of the roads while for a substantial number, the work order to start construction is ready.
Once completed, the rural connectivity in Bengal will reach a new height. Already roads have been built in all the 341 blocks.
The department proposes to complete 35,000 km by December 2019. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has always given stress on construction of rural roads.
From 2011 till now, over 13,571 km has been constructed.
Huge improvement in rural connectivity has changed the scenario in rural Bengal.
