Mamata slams Central forces for 'firing', says they should work 'impartially'

Bagda/Swarupnagar: Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee on Monday reacted sharply to the alleged "firing" by Central Force personnel inside a polling booth in Birbhum and urged them to work impartially and not as agents of the BJP.

Stating that the law and order is a state subject, she said it is not the job of the Central Forces to enter polling booths.

Banerjee further alleged: "Central Force personnel are working as agents of the BJP. They are asking whether BJP's agents are there inside the booth or not. They should work impartially."

The TMC supremo said it is unfortunate that BJP cannot keep faith in the state police. "They manage mammoth crowds during Durga Puja, Kali Puja, Eid and other festivals where not a single untoward incident takes place. But during elections, they bring in the Central Forces who does excesses. We have taken up the matter with the proper forum," she added.

Coming down heavily on Narendra Modi, she said in the past five years he has not done a thing. "By introducing note ban and hasty implementation of the GST, the country's economy has been ruined. 12,000 farmers have committed suicide. More than two crore people have lost their jobs due to demonetisation whereas he had assured by give jobs to two crore people per year, that is, 10 crore in five years. He is supposed to answer these questions to the electorate. But he is silent and instead, he is instigating people by raising their religious sentiments to divide them."
