Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reviewed the preparation of the 42nd International Kolkata Book Fair, which is going to be held in a new venue this time at Central Park in Salt Lake.
The Chief Minister held a high-level meeting with all concerned ministers, MLAs and officials to ensure all necessary steps are taken to ensure a safe and secure book fair this time.
The book fair this year, with France as its focal theme, is going to be inaugurated on January 30 and from the next day common people will be allowed to visit the event.
So, with only a few days left, the Chief Minister has enquired about the ongoing prepara- tion and directed to ensure that all aspects are looked into, so that not even a single person faces any inconvenience in the fair.
It may be mentioned that the previous meeting in this connection was held on December 8, in which the Chief Minister had stressed upon the need to make proper transport arrangement for the people visiting the book fair. It was mentioned that there is a place near the venue to park around 150 buses at a time.
All steps have been taken to make sufficient number of buses operate to help people reach their destinations from Central Park and vice-versa.
It may be recalled that the Chief Minister had directed in the last meeting to ensure that there is sufficient number of entry and exit points to the fair. Necessary steps have been taken in this connection as well.
The police are also taking all necessary steps so that people do not face any trouble due to traffic congestion. All steps have been taken to avoid traffic jam when hundreds of private vehicles will pour into the place.
Most importantly, steps have also been taken so that publishers who will be setting up their stalls in the book fair also do not face any problem.
