Mamata rebukes cops for blocking public vehicles to let her convoy pass

Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday expressed her displeasure with the police for restricting public vehicles in order to let her convoy pass. Banerjee, who had landed at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) Airport in Kolkata from Chennai in the evening, was on her way home. During her journey she noticed massive traffic congestion at Tegharia. Sources informed that in order to provide safe passage to her convoy, all the vehicles were diverted to the service road and the traffic was blocked near the Tegharia crossing. While on her way home, Banerjee noticed the arrangement and stopped her car at Tegharia. She reportedly got down from her car and expressed displeasure seeing public vehicles stopped for a long time. When she learnt that police had restricted public vehicles to let her convoy pass, Banerjee instructed police to take steps to clear the snarl immediately. Sources said that she has instructed police not to stop public vehicles for passage of VIP vehicles in future.
