Mamata lauds performances of Indian sportspersons at CWG

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today greeted sportspersons, who have made the country proud with their performances at the ongoing Commonwealth Games at Gold Coast in Australia.
The CM also made a special mention of the women squad for their achievements at the multi-sport event.
"Since the Commonwealth Games #CWG2018 started, our sports persons have been doing very well. Keep winning. It is good that so many girls are winning for India. Jai Hind," she tweeted this morning.
From weightlifting to table tennis and hockey, women have been putting up commendable performances at the 21st edition of the Commonwealth Games.
Teenaged Manu Bhaker grabbed the 10m air pistol gold medal and 22-year-old Punam Yadav picked up the yellow metal in a weightlifting event.
The women's table tennis team scripted history by clinching gold for the first time with a 3-1 victory over Singapore.
This morning, ace shooter Jitu Rai claimed the gold medal in men's 10m air pistol event by setting up a games record while compatriot Om Prakash Mitharval bagged a bronze.
India currently occupies the third position in the CWG medals tally, having claimed eight gold, four silver and five bronze medals so far.
