Mamata lashes out at Hindu Sanghati's attack on mediapersons

Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has condemned the attack on mediapersons by supporters of Hindu Sanghati during their rally at Rani Rashmoni Avenue on Wednesday afternoon.
Mediapersons were attacked when they went to take interview of some people from minority communities during the rally.
The Chief Minister has said in this connection that it is unfortunate that mediapersons have been attacked and necessary steps would be taken in this connection.
Every year on this day, Hindu Sanghati organises a rally. Similarly, this year too, mediapersons had gone to cover the rally. But the situation turned worse as some supporters of Hindu Sanghati attacked the mediapersons, with the organisation's chief Tapan Ghosh being a mere onlooker.
Ghosh, along with two others, have been arrested in connection with the incident. The incident has been condemned by all, starting from political leaders to intellectuals.
Firhad Hakim, the state Urban Development and Municipal Affairs minister, said it is shameful when someone attacks the media and it shows that they were trying to hide something.
Meanwhile, in another development, Kolkata Police's Cyber Crime police station has initiated a probe into the allegation that couples are being threatened through social media for their inter-religion marriage.
A list of 68 such couples has also been published on a social networking site. Though the couples had not taken it seriously, they later sought intervention of police when one of them started receiving "threat messages" on the Messenger app.
