Madhyamik student appears for exam one day after murder of father

Kolkata: An indomitable spirit might have prompted Suvam Singh to appear for the second day of Madhyamik examination on Tuesday after his father Vijay Singh (42) was brutally killed by miscreants while accompanying him from the examination centre on Monday.
A pale of gloom descended on the family. The incident took place at Naihati in North 24-Parganas on Monday afternoon. Suvam was returning home riding on his father's motorcycle as a pillion when a local miscreant hit on his head with an iron rod. He fell on the road. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital and later shifted to Kalyani JNM Hospital where he succumbed. According to doctors, the victim had suffered critical injuries in his head.
Fighting all odds, Suvam gathered courage to appear for the examination on Tuesday. He told his family members that he would sit for the examination. It was never easy for a 14-year-old boy to write his examination, a day after his father was killed and was a witness to the incident.
The family members and locals also stood by his side and encouraged him to gather strength. After Monday's incident, Suvam expressed his grief as he could not save his father from the miscreants. He had almost fainted but never lost hope.
The family members have alleged that one Dhananjay Singh carried out the attack with some of his companions. The victim had a quarrel with Dhananjay over some land related issue. The accused might have attacked him due to the incident, family members said. The accused is absconding since the incident took place. Police are conducting raids to nab the accused.
