Madhyamik examinee molested, brother beaten up in Sonarpur

Kolkata: A Madhyamik examinee of Chowhati area in Sonarpur has lodged a complaint of molestation against some local youth and also alleged that his brother was beaten up by the accused persons when the latter protested against their act.
According to the complaint of the victim, the incident took place on the night of February 25 while she was returning from a local sports event accompanied by his brother. The complainant is associated with gymnastics at the national level.
"While we were returning some local youth passed objectionable comments and my brother protested. As a result, the youth who were around four to five in number started assaulting him. When I tried to stop them they also beat me up. One of them even kicked me in my stomach," the victim said.
The victim sought help from a local leader who assured her of action against the youth. However, on Monday evening while she was returning from her tuition class with her mother, the same people came in a car and allegedly pulled her dupatta and tried to drag her into the bush by the side.
"My mother raised a cry and when people of the locality rushed to my rescue, they fled away," the victim said.
Soon after the incident, the girl lodged a complaint with the Sonarpur police station.
She further alleged that she is apprehending another attack from the accused persons and her preparations for Madhyamik examination scheduled next month is being hampered.
Local sources said there was an old feud between the victim's family and the youth which might have triggered the incident. One of the accused persons have lodged a counter complaint against the victim's brother that he had thrown stones at them.
"We are looking into both the complaints. Investigation is on," a senior police officer said.
