Low pressure area formed, heavy rain likely in South Bengal

Kolkata: The MeT department on Tuesday predicted heavy rain in South Bengal from Wednesday night owing to formation of a low pressure area over eastcentral Bay of Bengal.

The low pressure is likely to become more marked and concentrate into a depression by Wednesday night, the weatherman said. The system is likely to move west-northwestwards towards north Andhra Pradesh and South Odisha coasts during the period, the Met said.

Rainfall in South Bengal may commence from Wednesday night and may continue till Saturday. Heavy rainfall is likely from Thursday in the districts of North and South 24-Parganas, East and West Midnapore, Howrah and Hooghly.

All the districts of South Bengal are likely to experience heavy rain owing to the depression on Friday, the MeT said. Fishermen were told not to venture along and off Bengal, Odisha coasts and towards Bangladesh coasts from September 19 to 21, the weatherman said.
