Locals protest after student dies under speeding tractor

Tension ran high at Jalalkhali area of Nadia after a school student was killed in a road accident.

The local residents staged a demonstration in the area causing traffic jam. Police said that the victim Sourav Adhikari, a student of Class IX was returning home from his private tuition when a speeding tractor lost its control and hit the victim from behind.

The local residents rushed to the spot after hearing about the incident. The found the victim lying in the pool of blood. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where the victim was declared brought dead. The driver of the tractor fled from the spot immediately after the accident leaving the vehicle at the accident spot. The local residents ransacked the tractor and set it on fire.

An eye-witness told police that the tractor was approaching at a high speed when the driver saw the victim in front of the vehicle and as the speed was high, he could not control the vehicle and knocked him down.

The local people staged a demonstration protesting against the rash driving of vehicles which often leads to road accidents in the locality. They demanded that local police administration must book the drivers who drive their vehicles flouting traffic norms. Police reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
