Live-in partner, his parents held for girl's murder

Police arrested a youth and his family members on the charges of setting a woman, with whom the youth had an affair, on fire. The incident took place at Ashoknagar on Thursday.

Police said that the victim had got engaged into an affair with a youth. During Holi, the victim had left her home and fled with the accused and had started staying in a rented house at Paruipara in Ashoknagar.

On Wednesday evening, the youth's parents went to the rented house and took their son and the woman to their house. There was heated altercation since last night between the woman and the youth, Sambhu. His parents, too, had joined their son and allegedly beat up the woman.

Some local people went to their house hearing the woman's cries for help. They had decided to take both the woman and the youth to the local police station. But the youth's mother told everyone that they would be going to the police station on Thursday morning as it was already too late last night.

This morning, local people once again heard the girl's cries for help and rushed to the house. They found the woman on fire. They doused the flames and took her to a local hospital.

She was later shifted to a sub-divisional hospital as her condition deteriorated. Sources said that she had given her statement to the police. She later succumbed to her injuries. Police initiated a probe in this connection. The youth and his parents were arrested.
