Lawyer assaults youth for stealing pigeon

Kolkata: A youth was beaten up badly by a lawyer for allegedly stealing a pigeon from his house. When the youth's grandmother tried to protect him, she was also allegedly beaten up. The incident recently took place at Betai Bazaar at Tehatta in Nadia.

According to sources, approximately two months ago, the lawyer identified as Gobinda Biswas started keeping pigeons as pets on the roof of his house.

After a few days, his wife noticed a youth identified as Nayan Chowdhuri was stealing his pigeons. She immediately informed Biswas and who tried to nab Chowdhuri by giving him a chase but failed.

After a few days of the incident, Biswas went to Chowdhiri's house with a few people. As per the plan, a few days a kangaroo court was organised at Biswas's house.

During an argument, Biswas lost his temper and started beating Chowdhuri with a stick.

Someone from the crowd recorded a video of the incident and uploaded it on social media.

It is alleged that despite Chowdhuri apologised for his mistake Biswas did not stop beating him. On the contrary, when Chowdhuri's grandmother tried to protect him by shielding him Biswas did not spare her.

Later on Saturday, Chowdhuri's family members lodged a complaint against Biswas at Tehatta police station but till Sunday he was not arrested.

After the video went viral, Biswas on Sunday apologised for his act in a TV channel. Sources informed Chowdhuri's father was a labourer and lived outside Bengal for work.
