Law clerk's prompt action averts inmates' escape

Kolkata: Prompt intervention from a law clerk of Howrah Court averted an escape attempt of two specially-abled patients of Howrah District Hospital on Friday morning.
According to police sources, law clerk Amit Mondal while doing his work found that two naked persons were trying desperately to come down with the help a ladder attached to the wall of the hospital building. He immediately went to the emergency department of the hospital seeking their intervention but they showed little interest.
Then he rushed to the security guards of the hospital and the duo was caught. The Howrah Hospital is located less than a stone's throw distance from the Howrah Court.
Local source informed that when Mondal went to the emergency department, he was told to inform the matter to room number 17. Mondal took some time to search room number 17 that housed the male ward of the hospital. He immediately told the security guards in the male ward and urged them to accompany him. Two security guards finally managed to catch the duo while they were trying to flee by scaling the back gate of the hospital that was closed.
According to a hospital official, the ladder was placed as some renovation work was going on in the hospital. The duo had come down by using the ladder from the third floor of the building.
Many people who had come for work at the court thronged the hospital to see the specially-abled persons. Police informed that the two were vagabonds who had been admitted at the hospital for treatment through an NGO.
