Laboratory goes up in flames at Belgachhia

Kolkata: A fire broke out at Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) located at Belgachhia on Wednesday afternoon. Two fire tenders controlled the flames within half-an-hour. No one was hurt in the incident.

According to the police, on Wednesday around 3:20 pm, staff members of the Forensic Science Laboratory saw smoke from a room on the top floor of the building that housed the laboratory.

Immediately, the building was evacuated. Eventually Ultadanga police station and fire brigade were informed. Within few minutes two fire tenders were pressed into action.

But as no flames could be seen, primarily fire fighters failed to understand the source of the fire. After spraying water for a few minutes, fire fighters understood that fire broke out at a room on the top floor.

Later, water sprayed on the particular room and the fire was controlled by 3:50 pm. Cooling process went on for almost 20 minutes more. It is suspected that the fire might had occurred due to short circuit in the electrical line.
