Korbo, Lorbo, Jeetbo this fight against COVID-19: CM

Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Bollywood actor and the state's ambassador Shah Rukh Khan for extending support to Bengal stating that "such humane benefaction will keep inspiring millions in this country who look up to you as their role model with respect and reverence. We will 'Korbo, Lorbo, Jeetbo' this fight against COVID-19".

Sources at Nabanna stated that besides their exchange of tweets, Banerjee and Shah Rukh Khan also had a telephonic conversation when the latter also informed the Chief Minister about his decision to donate Rs 2.5 crore in the West Bengal State Relief Fund. At the same time Kolkata Knight Riders and Meer Foundation will work with West Bengal and contribute 50,000 Personal Protective Equipments

(PPE) for doctors and health workers who are fighting at the forefront to save lives of people.

Banerjee tweeted: "Thank you Shah Rukh Khan, your contribution will help assist a lot of distressed people during these challenging times. Such humane benefaction will keep inspiring millions in this country who look up to you as their role model with respect and reverence."

In reply to it, Khan wrote in Bengali in the social media that it is his duty as a brother to extend support to his 'Didi', who undertook selfless work for the society. He further stated in the tweet quoting lines of Rabindranath Tagore that "Kolkata, we believe... I slept and dreamt that life was joy. I awoke and saw that life was service. I acted and behold, service was joy." – Rabindranath Tagore

Khan tweeted in morning: "In these times it's imp to make everyone around u working tirelessly for u.. not related to u... perhaps even unknown to u... to feel they are not alone and by themselves. Let's just make sure we all do our little bit to look after each other. India and all Indians are One Family." Banerjee again wished good health to his family and stated that "So nice of you and your sweet words Shah Rukh Khan, I am indeed blessed to have someone who always tries to keep up and fulfill his duties of a brother. All of us in Bengal love you and pray for your good health. Keep up your good work, stay safe and take care of your family."

Meanwhile, the state doctors from Kolkata, who are members of Indian Medical Association, on Saturday handed over a cheque worth Rs 30 lakhs to health secretary Sanjay Bansal. Doctors, who are working in districts and also members of IMA, are contributing through online bank transfer. Around 25000 Hydroxychloroquin tablets have also been given to the health department and gloves, masks and PPEs will also be given soon.

Many other organisations have come forward to support the state government including JIS group that has donated Rs 2.51 crore in the relief fund while Dakshineswar Temple Committee who donated Rs 10 lakh.
