KoPT flags off first Ro-Ro consignment to Bangladesh

KOLKATA: Vinit Kumar, Chairman, Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT) flagged off the first-ever Ro-Ro export shipment of 240 trucks from Kolkata to Bangladesh on Thursday. The trucks, manufactured by TATA motors are to be shipped to the Port of Mongla, Bangladesh, from Kolkata Dock System's berth number two of Netaji Subhash Dock. Vessel M.V. IDM Doodle will be ferrying the consignment.
This is the first time that an automobile consignment is being ferried from Kolkata to Bangladesh via the sea route. "KoPT will try to carry on such significant ventures in a deliberate, planned and sustained manner to encourage more automobile manufacturers to seek this mode of shipment in the near future," Kumar said.
Earlier, trucks manufactured in Jamshedpur and Pantnagar plants were shipped to and from Petrapol Border. "This showcases the port's potential to create new ventures with our neighbouring country," said a senior KoPT official.
