Kolkatans to feel winter chill in city soon

Kolkata: The temperature in the city may go down further by 2-3 degrees in the next few days, giving a sense of winter chill to the city-dwellers, predicted the Regional Meteorological Centre at Alipore.

According to the weather office, winter may officially set in during the middle of December, but the people may witness cold weather earlier due to the chilling North-West wind. Jammu and Kashmir has already received heavy snowfall, causing drop in temperature in various North Indian states.

"There is an uninterrupted flow of North-West wind into the state which is bringing the cold. People will feel the cold weather especially during early morning and the late evening hours. There may be light rainfall in some North Bengal districts in the next 24 hours," a senior weather official said.

The lowest temperature in South Bengal districts may touch 18 degree Celsius in the next few days, while the highest temperature may hover around 30 degree Celsius. The temperature may further fall following the impact of the Western disturbances in various North Indian states.

The temperature has started dropping slightly in the last few days in the city. Various South Bengal districts are witnessing misty weather in early morning hours. The situation will continue to remain the same in the next few days as well.
