Kolkata Press Club, CII launch programme on business journalism

Kolkata: Kolkata Press Club in collaboration with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) organised a four-day-long orientation programme on business journalism that started on Monday.
Snehashis Sur, president of the Press Club, Umesh Chowdhary, Chairman of CII Eastern Region, Suparna Pathak, renowned journalist and the chief course coordinator, Jawahar Sircar, former CEO of Prasar Bharati and Nita Karmakar, Regional Director of CII Eastern Region, were present in the inaugural ceremony.
Followed by the inaugural ceremony, there was a brainstorming session on "Business Journalism in a Digitized World". In the inaugural ceremony, Sur stressed upon the need of such orientation programmes for better understanding of the subject.
Chowdhary said that CII is considering to launch a course on business journalism in the East through its Centre for Excellence in Kolkata.
Karmakar said training programmes on topics related to business and industries can be an area of collaboration with the Press Club, Kolkata.
Sircar called upon journalists to be more analytical than speculative in dealing with news related to business, economics, trade and commerce and to enlighten themselves to be able to interpret objectively the impacts of various economic decisions and activities.
