Kolkata Poush Utsav to be inaugurated on December 24 at Rabindra Tirtha

Kolkata: The six-day long Kolkata Poush Utsav will be inaugurated on December 24 at Rabindra Tirtha.

Firhad Hakim, state Urban Development and Municipal Affairs minister and Suvaprasanna are likely to be present at the inaugural function. The mela will continue till December 29.

The mela has been organized by Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (Hidco) and supported by Anandadhaara, West Bengal Swarojgar Corporation Ltd ( WBSRLM), West Bengal Export Promotion Society and Loksanskriti o Adivasi Sanskriti Kendra along with Link UP.

The mela will inaugurated on December 24 morning with Brahma sangeet rendition and prayer at Upasanaghar in New Town followed by a pravatpheri to Rabindra Tirtha.

There will be 12 women entrepreneurs representing self help groups from six districts, 30 global artisans including the tribal ones with their handicrafts, handloom, woolens, custom jewellery, furnishings, décor, fashion accessories, and homemade processed food products.

There will be an unique themed food pavilion serving traditional delicacies, sweets and Christmas confectionaries.

More than 120 folk artistes representing Baul, Chou, Santhal, Gambhira, Raibenshe, Bhadu, Tusu, Jhumur, Jaarigaan and Fakir will perform at the lawns and stage.

On December 24, Christmas Eve will be held at 5pm. This will be followed by Alokananda Roy perform Dhrubajyoti tumi Jishu.

On December 25 Christmas Day Treat we are privileged to have Anjan Dutt perform Raghupati his adaptation on Gurudev Rabindra Nath Tagore's "Bisarjan".

On December 26, a two hour of exclusive folk will take the audience in search of our roots. On December 27, Soumitra Chattopadhyay will be present .On December 28 Dakshinee will present Tagore's dance drama Phalguni directed Debashish Raychaudhuri. On December 29 Amita Dutt and her troupe Ananda Chandrika will perform Janani Janmabhoomi.
