Kolkata Police join hands with Google to provide traffic info

Kolkata: Kolkata Police has tied up with Google to provide traffic-related information to people during Durga Pujas. Special traffic regulations on the Google Map can be viewed by people travelling across the city. Commissioner of Police (CP) Kolkata Anuj Sharma on Monday unveiled the Puja guide map along with the traffic review bulletin of 2018 in Lalbazar. Apart from the guide map and bulletin, Sharma also unveiled a special badge called the child identity badge. This badge can be procured from police assistance booths during Puja days. Parents are suppose to write their children's name and contact number on the badge to help the police in case their children get lost in the crowd. The badge will help the police or other people to inform the parents about their children.

During the inauguration programme, Deputy Commissioner (DC), Traffic, Pandey Santosh said Kolkata Police has tied up with the Google this year to provide information about traffic to people visiting pandals.

According to Santosh, during the pujas, pandal-hoppers and commuters can view the traffic situation on the Google Map, which will come into force from October 2 (Chaturthi).

The map will show the roads shut for vehicular movement as well as the temporary one-way routes. "It will help commuters and pandal-hoppers to plan their routes and avoid traffic congestion. The entire traffic arrangement will reflect on the Google Map," said Santosh.

According to police officials, people can view the guide map on the Bondhu app by Kolkata Police. People can also get the printed guide maps from local police stations and traffic guards across the city.
