Kolkata Jewellery and Gem fair to be held from April 7-9

Kolkata: The Kolkata Jewellery and Gem fair (KJGF) will be held in the city from April 7 to 9. The venue will be AMMERF, New Town. The expo is well-supported by the state government and West Bengal and Calcutta Gems & Jewellery Welfare Association (CG&JWA).
The three-day fair is likely to attract over 100+ exhibitors from across the country as well as abroad. The delegates from Nepal, Bangladesh, Australia, Turkey and UAE are likely to take part in the eastern India's biggest Gem and Jewellery fair.
The three-day premium jewellery expo is poised to promote and trigger the trade for the jewellery industry in India. Being the largest fine jewellery event in the region, KJGF 2018 is expected to shine with the stalwarts of Bengal and international fine jewellery manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, dealers, importers and exporters of Diamond, Gold, Silver, Gemstones, Machinery and Packaging & Allied services.
The expo is suitably timed, just prior to the seasonal festivities such as Poila Baishakh, the Bengali New Year, and the auspicious occasion of Akshay Tritiya, as well as the summer wedding season.
The premium trade fair will showcase a rich agglomeration of exquisite and handcrafted jewellery that Bengal is renowned for. These splendid and intricately designed jewellery include statement sets in diamonds, golds, silvers and pearls along with gemstones and related products. Apart from traditional bridal pieces like Chandbalis, Choor, Ratanchoor, Mantasha, Saptalahari, Hansulis, Nabaratna sets, Kundan, Polki and Meenakari sets, among others, a significant amount of gemstones in Kolkata is also used for astrological purposes in the form of Graharatna jewellery.
The retail market of the city and its suburbs is a prominent one. Although old family jewellers continue to receive patronage, the new global order is decidedly about superior customer experience, ease of transactions, and cultural rootedness, with an eye on international trends, thus encouraging the presence of organised retailers in the market.
There is a subtle change in the jewellery trends, where a piece of jewellery elicits a more personal statement. People are moving from stereotypes to classy, affordable bespoke pieces, dominated by varied shades of jewellery materials.
