Kolkata film institute students continue relay hunger strike

Kolkata: A relay hunger strike launched by agitating students of the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI) here continued for the second day on Monday over demands of "immediate and unconditional revocation" of rustication of 14 female students. Besides the revocation, other demands include ending hostel segregation and for academic reforms. On Monday, seven volunteers who had kicked-off the strike late on Saturday, relayed the protest to seven others. Expulsion of the girl students allegedly over "hostel segregation" after they refused to vacate the old hostel rooms and shift to a new girls' hostel on the campus, triggered protests among the students fraternity since October 17. The impasse between institute's students and authorities has not been resolved since then.
