PWD officials to undergo training programme on GST on July 1

A training programme will be organised on Goods and Services Tax (GST) for the engineers and officials of the state Public Works Department (PWD). The training programme for the officials from chief engineer level to assistant engineers of the state PWD will be organised so that they do not face any problems in understanding the finance related matters involved in undertaking a project after the implementation of GST on July 1. The training programme will be organised at Khudiram Anushilan Kendra on July 1. In the meeting the officials of the South Zone that includes Hooghly, East and West Midnapore will be present. Billing clerks at different offices of the department will also be attending the training programme.

Senior officials from the Directorate of Commercial Taxes will be administering training of the PWD officials. According to a senior official of the state PWD, similar training programmes will be organised for all the zones of the PWD. The official said that the engineers and billing clerks need to be aware as they deal with different contractors. Sources in the Directorate of Commercial Taxes said that similar training programme to make the officials aware about different aspects of GST are being organised at different parts of the state so that the officials do not face any problem once it is implemented. "At the same time steps have also been taken to create awareness among tax payers," the official said.
