Fake medical college unearthed in Howrah, 1 held

Howrah Police on Wednesday unearthed a fake medical college in Howrah's Jagachha in the name of Central Calcutta Medical College that had been issuing medical certificates to the candidates who used to undergo courses there. The owner of this fake medical college is Amal Khatua who was an employee of a state-run hospital in Kakdwip. Classes were being conducted every Sunday.

Police came to know about the existence of this fake medical college after interrogating a fake doctor who was earlier arrested by the police. Police said that this medical college had no clearance either from the state government or the Medical Council of India. This fake medical college used to get a huge amount of money from the candidates for issuing medical certificates.

Altogether, three fake doctors have been arrested from two districts on Wednesday. One incident took place in South 24 Parganas while the other took place at Kharagpur in East Midnapore. A fake doctor was arrested from Sonarpur in South 24 Parganas on Wednesday on the charges of practicing allopathy without a valid registration.

Police said that the accused identified as Subrata Sardar had been running a chamber at Atghara Daspara area under Sonarpur police station in guise for quite a long time. He introduced himself as one S S Tapan, an MBBS doctor and treated patients at his chamber. He had put up a signboard outside his chamber that carries the degree against his name. After his arrest, the police said that the original name of the accused is Subrata Sardar.

Acting on a specific information, police raided his chamber and asked the accused to produce his certificates which he failed to do to the investigating officer. Police finally arrested the accused as he failed to show any valid papers in favour of his claim of being an MBBS doctor. It is also learnt that the police seized various fake documents and fake medicines from his chamber. The accused also called up some persons to avoid an arrest but all his efforts finally went in vain. In another incident in East Midnapore, police have arrested two fake doctors from Kharagpur who have been identified as Pulak
Dasgupta and Azgar Ali. They do not have any valid papers, police said.
