Another fake doctor arrested from Howrah

Howrah police arrested another fake doctor from Jagatballavpur area on Wednesday night.

This is the second incident in recent weeks where the district police have arrested a fake doctor who had been practicing in the district without a valid registration. According to the police, the accused doctor was using a fake registration number. The accused, Rahaman Mullick, a middle-aged man had earned a good name in the locality. He used to operate from a chamber at Domjur, Jagatballavpur.

Police said that the accused doctor used to attend various government programmes in the district.

On June 2, the district police arrested one Subhendu Bhattacharya, a fake doctor from Bantra area who used to use the registration number of another doctor. He used to sit in various chambers and also attended private hospitals by using another person's registration number. After the fake doctor issue came to light, the district police came to know about the fraud being committed by the two doctors. Police had arrested the accused from Kadamtala bazaar area.

In the last two days, two fake doctors were detected in East Burdwan's Katwa. In both the cases, district health officials asked the accused to submit their papers. It was learnt that one of the accused was an ayurvedic doctor while the other was a naturopathy physician. But both of them were practicing allopathy. The district administration had ordered a probe in both the cases.

Three other doctors from a private nursing home in Thakurpukur are under the scanner after it was alleged that they were practicing without a valid registration. Samir Kumar Mondal, one of the accused doctors, has been practicing without proper registration. It was learnt that the other two doctors, Sujay Das and Ananda Nanda, were also practicing despite not having the proper qualifications. All the three accused had been practicing in the private nursing home for the past few years.

The West Bengal Medical Council (WBMC) is looking into the matter. Stern action will be taken against the fake doctors who are practicing in chambers and various private establishments without proper registration numbers from the Medical Council of India. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has already shared the information relating to various suspected fake doctors in the state with the WBMC to ascertain if they had a valid registration.
