Shops damaged after truck rams into them

Four shops were badly damaged when a speeding truck lost control and rammed into them. The incident occurred at Kalna in Burdwan early on Friday morning.

None were, however, reported to be injured in the accident as the shops were shut at the time of the incident. The accident triggered a palpable tension in the area. Police said that the truck was on its way to Kalna from the Dharma Danga area and lost its control and rammed into the shops at Lichutala area. The driver and the helper of the truck fled from the spot leaving the vehicle at the accident site.

Police later seized the vehicle. The cops said that the two shops were completely damaged in the incident. Police are investigating if the driver was in a drunken state while the incident had take place and are conducting raids to nab the driver and the helper of the truck.

A number of road accidents took place in various parts of North Dinajpur. In one incident, a motorised van overturned at Gulandar village of Raigunj in North Dinajpur on Thursday night in which four persons received severe injuries. They were taken to the Raigunj district hospital where a woman later succumbed to her injuries. Three others were undergoing treatment at the hospital.

In another incident, six persons were injured when a tractor they were travelling in over turned near Bagbari area of Itahar in North Dinajpur on Friday morning. They were taken to the block primary health centre at Itahar. One Kalimuddin Seikh who was walking along the Chanchal-Itahar state highway on Friday was hit by a state-run bus. He was rushed to the nearby health centre by the local people. His condition is stated to be serious. In another accident, a driver of a truck and a driver of a matador were injured after both the vehicles collided head on at Shuliapara area of Itahar.
