A water ATM machine which was non-functional for the past few days was fixed at the SSKM Hospital on Friday.
The patients and their relatives visiting the hospital were facing drinking water crisis in the hospital due to the non-functioning of the machine due to some technical problems. The machine was made functional at around 8 am on Friday. To meet the growing demands of drinking water at the hospital, especially at the time of the scorching summer heat, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) had arranged drinking water and has stationed water tankers in various state-run hospitals.
The matter came to the notice of the Health department officials. The water ATM was installed at the SSKM Hospital after the Rogi Kalyan Samiti had urged the state Public Health Engineering (PHE) department to address the crisis of drinking water in the hospital.
There has been a crisis of drinking water in the hospital during the summer season. As hundreds of patients and their relatives visit the city hospitals on a regular basis, there is a shortage of drinking water in the hospital. The Public Health Engineering department had taken initiative to set up water ATMs at various state-run hospitals so that patients do not face shortage of water.
The state PHE department had taken up an elaborate scheme to install water ATM machines at various hospitals in the state.
