Cattle menace pushes Purulia's district administration to hold meeting for a solution

Cattle roaming around freely in Purulia town has become such a serious menace that the administration finds no other option rather than to hold a meeting on the issue!

In Purulia, you can hardly find bad roads, inadequately-lit thoroughfares that are causing road accidents. But cattle, especially cows, goats and buffaloes have become a potential threat for motorists, especially in the town's main road, Chawkbazar, Chaibasa Road, Hat Crossing, Bus Stand Cross, Hospital Crossing, areas around District Magistrate's Office and even on the National Highway 314.

There are some instances in which road accident took place in the town while speeding vehicles were trying to avoid cows on the roads and hit pedestrians in turn.

Sometimes cattle injure passers-by and people standing on the road in front of tea stalls. The vegetable shop owners find much difficulty when cattle enter the market and such incidents too have become common where animals were found dead after an accident withy vehicles.

"This is really a problem. We have decided to hold a meeting with cattle owners to bring a solution," District Magistrate Purulia, Alokesh Prasad Roy said while talking to Millennium Post.

The local residents said that the problem lies with unplanned dairies in and around the town. "The owners leave them to stray so that they can graze on whatever they get. Problems that take place due to these cattle are many. They owners are not trained enough to catch and load these animals to cattle sheds timely," said a local resident.

"The owners of the cattle have no civic responsibilities that they stray the outside anytime," the resident expressed this annoyance.

A source revealed that Director, West Bengal Health Service Biswa Ranjan Satpathi, who recently visited Purulia Sub Divisional Hospital, reportedly expressed his displeasure to see a cow inside the hospital. The district's officers were seen confused and did not have any answer. The workers of the Manbhum Sports Association also had a tough time to guard their cricket pitch from stray cattle. Recently, the association organised an important match. But the workers had to guard the pitch which was recently rolled on. Chairman of Goshala Committee Raju Rajgoria said: "Cattle owners have to take responsibility to take those cattle back to their sheds. This is the only way to solve the problem." On the other hand, the bus owners' association of the district requested the police to do something.
