Awaiting Supreme Court order on Karnan: Bengal Police

Hours after the Supreme Court sentenced Calcutta High Court judge C.S. Karnan to jail for six months, the West Bengal Police on Tuesday said it was yet to receive a copy of the order.

"We are waiting for the order from them. Let the order come. We will proceed accordingly," Additional Director General of state police (law and order) Anuj Sharma said.

He refused to share any more information on the matter.

The apex court on Tuesday held Karnan guilty of contempt and sent him to jail. It ordered the Director General of West Bengal Police to constitute a team for the implementation of its order "forthwith".

There were reports that personnel from the Newtown police station had gone to Karnan's residence "Rosedale" in northeast Kolkata, but could not find the judge there.

But police did not confirm it.
