'kmc will not do away with manual attendance system'

Kolkata: Mayor Sovan Chatterjee said that the proposal of biometric attendance can be considered but the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) will not do away with the system of manual attendance in connection with the attendance of Councillors at the monthly meeting of the civic body. His assertions came after TMC Councillor of ward 36 Rajesh Khanna moved the motion of introducing biometric attendance for the Councillors at the monthly meeting. "KMC house meeting attendance are signed manually by the councillors in register book which is time consuming. Biometric attendance at the entry door will not only save time but will also bring down the use of paper and put an end to proxy attendance. The digital data can also be sued for future reference," Khanna said. Speaking on the proposal of Khanna, the Mayor said: "The monthly session of the KMC has a historical significance. We may welcome the biometric method after taking the opinion of councillors and reaching a consensus in this regard. But the manual system will remain as it is," Chatterjee maintained.
