KMC to rename road after Shakti Chattopadhyay

Kolkata: Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has decided to rename a road in Beliaghata area after poet Shakti Chattopadhyay, who used to live at a flat in the housing Purbangana at 5, Rammohan Mullick Garden Lane. Approximately a month ago, Mandeville Gardens has been renamed after celebrated author Sunil Gangopadhyay, who was very close to the poet.

During the last six years of his life, Shakti used to live here. Till date, locals reminisce about the poet and the days he spent there. According to MMiC (Roads), Ratan Dey, KMC has decided to rename the road in front of his housing after him.

The poet's wife Minakshi Chattopadhyay expressed her happiness over the matter and said: "Of course it is good news. Residents of Purbangana had earlier called for renaming the road after him but it did not materialise. At last it happened after 25 years."
