KMC to give complete facelift to Roy Street Park before Durga Puja

Kolkata: The residents and particularly the children living in and around Justice Chandra Madhab Road in Bhowanipore have reasons to cheer. The Kolkata Municipal Corporation is giving a total facelift to Roy Street Park which will be completed before the Durga Puja.
"A corner of the park was like an open dustbin with heaps of garbage piling up day-by-day. It would morning walkers and children to use this park as much as they would have liked. We are constructing a wonderful statue of Swami Vivekananda at that place by removing the garbage heap," a senior official of the Parks and Squares department of KMC said.
The demand for a beautiful park with greenery has been a long-standing demand of the locals as the park has turned into an eyesore and a glaring example of visual pollution. The area falls under the Bhowanipore constituency of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The statue of Swamiji will be similar to the model of the mural at Belur Math.
To add to the beauty of the park, a rockery with water is being constructed inside the park which will be
illuminated with digital lights and will be a feast to the eyes in the evening.
Local Councillor Asim Bose is optimistic of readying the park with a total facelift before the Durga Puja as Puja is held in this park every year and it will be no exception this year too. The park also has a gym with a good number of people particularly senior citizens sweating out.
"We will keep a garbage vehicle at one side of the entrance of the park where people can drop garbage and it will be carried away on a regular basis," the KMC official said.
Councillor Bose has taken the initiative and also beautified the Northern Park known as Subhas Udyan. As many as 280 truckloads of earth had been dumped and grass had been laid on it. The park had its grass wiped out and was in a need of a facelift.
