KMC to begin recruitment drive in various depts

Kolkata: The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) will recruit employees in different departments to provide better services, Mayor Firhad Hakim said on Wednesday.

Hakim said some junior assistants will join the KMC soon followed by sub-overseers and engineers. The KMC has already sent a requisition to the state government regarding this. "Today a delegation of DYFI members met me and wanted to know about the recruitment of new employees. I told them that they should ask the Left Front Mayors Prasanta Chatterjee and Bikas Ranjan Bhattacharya as to why did they not go for major recruitment drive. There was some recruitment during the time of Subrata Mukherjee. To recruit employees, certain norms are to be maintained and it takes some time. We are likely to recruit new employees by October-November," he added.

Hakim attended the fourth edition of "Talk to Mayor" on Wednesday. He received a complaint that trade license had been issued in the name of a dead person. The KMC initiated an inquiry and show-cause notices will be issued against those who are found guilty. The civic authorities have decided to present saplings replacing flower bouquets that are given to the guests who come to attend functions organised by the civic authorities or visit the KMC to see the Mayor and other Mayor-in-Council members.

"When we have decided to turn Kolkata into a clean and green city, we should take the initiative to plant saplings to conserve the environment," he said.

"Talk to Mayor" witnessed the fourth edition on Wednesday and has received tremendous response from the people who get to speak to the Mayor and their complaints get addressed within three days.
