KMC mulls mobile app to take stock of water supply glitches

Kolkata: If there is any technical glitch in the water supply system in the city, officials of Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) will now get to know about it while sitting at the headquarter.

The KMC is planning to develop a mobile application through which the officials will be able to ascertain where a pipe has developed a crack or any other technical problem. The IT department of KMC will develop the app. It will also help the senior officials of the department to direct the employees while repairing any damage.

The water supply department engineers and employees will switch on their mobile cameras before starting a repair work and upload the footage on the application. Once the repair work gets done, the engineers will have to click photographs and upload them on the app. Senior officials of the department will be able to see the progress of works sitting at the civic headquarter by using the app. The new system will also fix accountability on the employees at the water supply department.

If everything goes as per plan, the application will be prepared within the current month and it will be inaugurated by Mayor Firhad Hakim.
