KMC gears up to keep Babughat pristine

Kolkata: The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has taken special measures to keep Babughat and its adjoining areas clean with a number of pilgrims camping there on the occasion of Gangasagar Mela. "Pilgrims have started to flock in large numbers at the temporary camps set up by the state government for the past one week and the numbers are increasing day by day. So, we have taken special measures to keep the place neat and clean," Member, Mayor-in-Council (Solid Waste Management ) Debabrata Majumder said. He added that the SWM department is working round the clock in and around Babughat and its adjoining areas, where these pilgrims have camped. "We have 48 movable compactors that are operational in the city. We have increased two such compactors. Eight battery operated vehicles are being used for garbage cleaning," Majumder added. It may be mentioned that the temporary toilets are being cleaned at regular intervals and three water vehicles with water tanks have been allocated for the purpose of this cleaning. MPOST
