Khagragarh blast case accused nabbed in Bangalore, brought to city

Kolkata: The National Investigation Agency has brought Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) terrorist Habibur Rehman Shaikh alias Habibur Shaikh to

Kolkata, who was an accused in Khagragarh blast case in Burdwan.

He was arrested on Tuesday from Dodabalpur in Bangalore in Karnataka.

According to National Investigation Agency, a charge-sheet was submitted before the NIA court accusing Habibur for his involvement in the Khagragarh blast in 2015. It is alleged that Habibur was involved in an conspiracy by Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh to wage war between India and Bangladesh.

Habibur used to be a close associate of senior Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen leader Jahidul Islam alias Kausar.

He was also associated with JMB leaders Rahamatullah Shaikh alias Sajid and Moulana Yusuf. Habibur was also an active member of JMB, Bolpur Module in Bengal.

He had attended a number of training camps conducted by senior Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh leaders.

On Tuesday, Habibur was produced before the Additional City Civil and Sessions Court and NIA Special Judge with a plea for transit remand.

Later, the court granted five days transit remand.

After the court had allowed transit remand, Habibur was brought to Kolkata on Friday and was produced before the special NIA Court at Bankshall Court with an appeal for NIA custody.

After hearing the detailed appeal the concerned magistrate remanded Habibur to NIA custody till July 9.

While the police were in Banglalore, they had grilled Habibur for more information.

During the interrogation, Habibur revealed some startling information which led to seizure of two Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) on Wednesday.

Habibur said two IEDs were kept near Ramnagar railway track. NIA immediately informed the Bangalore police and also reached Ramnagar railway track. Police officers found the IEDs from a drain close to the track.

After the IEDs were found, bomb disposal squad of Bangalore police diffused the explosives. In February, Kolkata police had arrested five JMB terrorists from various parts of Kolkata. The five were identified as Manirul Islam, Ariful Islam, Moshibur Rahman, Ruhul Amin and Abdul Matin in the Bodh Gaya serial blast case which happened on July 7, 2013.

Moshibur Rahman alias Farooque and Ruhul Amin alias Saifullah belong of Raghunathganj in Murshidabad.

Later, it was revealed that they were hatching a plan to release Kausar from Alipore Jail.

For that they were doing a recce on how to act against the police and NIA to make way for Kausar.

After arresting them, sleuths had found route maps which police and NIA used to take Kausar to Bankshall Court and back to Alipore Jail every 14 days. A map of Kolkata was also found from them.
