Keep tight vigil in your areas: Mamata

Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee directed all ministers to keep a watch in their respective areas and its adjoining places to ensure that the festival season passes off peacefully.
Banerjee said this in the Cabinet meeting that was held at Nabanna on Thursday.
It was learnt that the Chief Minister urged all the ministers to be present in their respective areas during the Pujas so that they can take immediate and necessary action if needed to ensure proper law and order situation.
It may be mentioned that this was one of the key issues that has been discussed in the Cabinet meeting that was held on Thursday.
The Chief Minister had earlier urged the people not to fall prey to rumours as that are purposely circulated to disturb the peace in the state. She had urged the common people to inform the police if they identify any rumour-monger.
In both the state level administrative review meeting and the previous Cabinet meeting that was held on September 4 and 8 respectively, the Chief Minister had directed to take necessary steps to ensure proper law and order situation during the festive season and not to allow excess of weapons on the day of
Dashami that has been proposed by some groups.
In the administrative review meeting, she had told to all senior police officers to take all necessary measures so that the normalcy in any part of the state doesn't get hampered. She had also directed steps to ensure that people do not get harassed unnecessarily. The police were also asked to keep a tab on the situation to get information without any delay if anyone attempts to spread rumour with an intention to create a law and order problem.
Thursday's Cabinet meeting was the last one before the state's biggest festival — Durga Puja. The state government makes all arrangements for safety and security of people during the Pujas.
The police officers held meetings will Durga Puja organisers and they have been instructed to follow certain guidelines so that no untoward incident takes place. At the same time, the police are also keeping a watch at the situation and they are keeping touch with the grassroot level so that people can easily approach the police if they face any sort of trouble during the Pujas.
The police also had a talk with members of local clubs in their jurisdiction and urged them to be in touch with the police in case they come across any untoward incident.
