JU students lift protest, V-C leaves campus after 36 hours

The students of Jadavpur University lifted their sit in demonstration late on Friday night after Vice-Chancellor Suranjan Das made it clear that the university will have to abide by the law of the state government in making students' union apolitical.
It was after nearly after 36 hours when Das left the university early on Saturday morning after being forced to remain inside the administrative building at Aurobindo Bhavan with the students sitting in a dharna right at the entrance.
"The university will be closed till Tuesday. We will sit for another meeting on Thursday and decide our next course of action," an agitating student said.
They have been picketing inside the campus since Thursday afternoon demanding that the students' union should consist of elected representatives and they should not agree to the government's notification of a students' council with nominated members.
