JSW Group's Salboni cement factory to be inaugurated soon

Kolkata: The cement factory of the JSW Group at Salboni is going to be inaugurated in January. The opening of the factory will create employment for hundreds of people.
According to sources at Nabanna, a team comprising senior officers in districts visited the venue where the inaugural programme will be held considering that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee may remain present at the event.
It may be mentioned that the Chief Minister had inaugurated the commencement of construction of the 2.4 metric tonne capacity cement factory at Salboni in West Midnapore on January 6 in 2016. The cement factory has come up on a 134-acre land at a cost of Rs 800 crore.
The factory has been completed in two years' time and is going to be inaugurated in the current month. It has been learnt that if everything goes as planned, then the programme could take place on January 15.
Preparations are being made to ensure proper security at the place to avoid any untoward incident during the inaugural ceremony and this is going to be a landmark event ahead of the Bengal Global Business Summit that is scheduled to be held on January 16 and 17.
It may be recalled that during the inauguration of the commencement of construction of the cement plant, the JSW Group had also announced its plans to invest around Rs 10,000 crore to set up a power plant and a paint manufacturing factory at Salboni where the group has acquired around 4,000 acres of land. The plan was to invest around Rs 8,000 crore to set up the power plant and another Rs 1,000 crore for the paint manufacturing factory. Moreover, there is also a plan to increase the production capacity of the cement factory at Salboni to 4.8 metric tonne from the existing 2.4 metric tonne.
