Joynagar shootout: Prime accused held

Kolkata: The CID arrested Abdul Mollah, alias Babua, the prime accused in Joynagar shoot out case along with two others in

New Delhi.

They will be brought to the city on transit remand on Saturday. With the arrested of these three miscreants, the total number of people arrested in connection with the shoot out case reaches 19.

On December 12, 2018, Sarfuddin along with two others were

killed near the Indian Oil Petrol pump in Joynagar.

The miscreants hurled bombs at Sarfuddin's car and fired at the vehicle killing him on the spot.

The other two died at the hospital later. Biswanath Das, Trinamool Congress MLA, had been travelling with Sarfuddin in the vehicle but he got down before the incident had taken place.

Police initially thought that the plot was hatched to eliminate Das. But Sajmal, one of the accused, told police he along with Babua had collected people who were anti-Sarfuddin and a blue print was prepared to kill him.

Cops later found that it was a business rivalry which led to the crime.

Acting on a tip off, police raided a house where Babua and his henchmen put up.

Babua had left Joynagar after the incident and had been staying in the house since then. They were arrested early on Friday morning.

Difference between Sarfuddin and Babua widened after the former developed intimacy with Biswanath Das.

Babua thought that this would affect his business and had started picking up criminals and made plans to kill Sarfuddin.

Babua was engaged in extortion and illegal selling of land. He was losing his base in the area very fast and thought to make his presence unchallenged, Sarfuddin should

be eliminated.
