JMB terrorist held from Canal East Road

Kolkata: Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police arrested a Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) terrorist from Canal East Road on Monday morning.

The accused person, identified as Md. Abul Kashem alias Kashem of Mangalkote in Burdwan, was recruited by JMB terrorist Ejaz Ahmed alias Ezazul, who was arrested by the STF a week ago from Gaya in Bihar. Kashem was produced before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's (CMM) Court, Calcutta and remanded to police custody till September 16.

According to sources, following Ahmed's arrest, STF officials interrogated him and came to know about a few other members of JMB.

STF sources were asked to keep tabs on to find the locations of these JMB members. Late on Sunday night, STF officials came to know from their sources that one of the JMB members was hiding somewhere around Canal East Road under Ultadanga police station's jurisdiction. Working on source information, STF personnel came to know that Kashem was hiding at a house near Gaznabi bridge on Canal East Road.

Based on the information, the police on Monday morning raided the house and nabbed Kashem. During search, the police found several incriminating articles, including a phone and some hand-written documents. During interrogation, Kashem disclosed that he and many other members of the terrorist outfit was instructed by JMB chief Salauddin Salahein and other leaders to meet in Kolkata and discuss about further strategies.

They had a plan to flee to South India in order to take shelter and work on their plans. After finding a safe hideout they were asked to reorganise themselves and to commence their respective works.

The police are trying to know about other JMB terrorist's location and identity. STF personnel have been instructed to keep a strict vigil and alert their sources to find out the JMB members who are still on the run. The police are also trying to know about Salauddin's location and his plans.
