Jibanananda Setu to remain closed for traffic for another day

Kolkata: Jibanananda Setu, popularly known as Selimpur bridge, which was closed for vehicular traffic from Friday till Sunday night, will be closed for another day due to non-completion of work within stipulated time.

According to police, Jibanananda Setu was supposed to be closed from August 16 night to August 19 morning. As the weather condition in Kolkata turned worse, the repair work did not commence last week. Later, it was decided that the work will be done from Friday and will be completed by Sunday night.

During the work of replacing the expansion joint, Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) found that it would not be completed within the time given. Thus, Kolkata Police was asked for one more day in order to complete the work.

After getting the information from KMDA, Kolkata Traffic Police has decided to carry on with the closure of Jibanananda Setu. Police also informed that the diversion routes will remain same till Monday night.
