Jhargram will have a university soon: Mamata

Jhargram: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday announced that the district will get a university soon.
She was addressing a gathering at Raj College ground here on Wednesday afternoon.
"Jhargram is a new district and so many educational institutions have come up here. There is demand for a university. Let me go back to Kolkata and I will speak to our Education minister Partha Chatterjee and will announce it next time," she said.
During the Left Front regime, there was a state-run college in Jhargram.
After coming to power in 2011, three colleges have been set up including a women's college. A nursing college has come up in Lalgarh. To give best education to the tribal boys and girls, Ramakrishna Mission Vidyamandir Ekalavya Model Residential School has been set up. On top of it, books upto Class X have been written in Olchiki script.
Banerjee urged the state Education department to take a five year scheme to write books upto the post graduate level in Olchiki script.
It may be recalled that the Backward Classes Welfare Department has come up with a trilingual dictionary in Olchiki, English and Bengali having more than 24,000 words.
